Re: Refund for COVID-19-Related Visit

Updated 1/20/2023

We have diligently worked with insurance carriers regarding COVID-19 testing-related visits during March 2020 – November 2022. As a result, we are removing balances on patient statements and/or processing a refund for any payments made related to CityMD COVID-19 testing visits. Patients have been contacted to inform them they are not responsible to CityMD for any portion of the claim.

CityMD did not collect any COVID-19 testing-related co-payment(s) or issue patients COVID-19 testing-related statement(s) between March 2020 and June 2022, as we worked closely with insurance companies to evaluate rapidly changing insurance requirements and COVID-19 guidelines. CityMD began releasing patient statements in June 2022 based on feedback from insurance plans.  After continued coordination with insurance carriers and review of related guidance, CityMD is recalling COVID-19 testing-related bills and removing any related balance from patient accounts.

Following the end of the Public Health Emergency (PHE), which is presently extended until April 2023, CityMD may resume collection of applicable co-payments and deductibles for COVID-19 testing-related services as appropriate under insurance coverage policies and/or PHE-related requirements.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused our patients. It is our privilege to deliver care to our patients, and we are very proud of the vital role we played in delivering health care to our communities during every phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
