Dr. Abel Cherian is the medical director of the City MD locations in lower New York City and Staten Island. Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Cherian is also certified in advanced trauma life support, advanced cardiac life support, advanced pediatric life support, and SIM Man 3G® advanced patient simulator instruction.
Before joining CityMD, Dr. Cherian was a clinical instructor in emergency medicine and an attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He was also vice-chairman for the department of emergency medicine at The Veterans Health Administration New York Harbor Healthcare System (VA NYHHC), Brooklyn Campus. He was also chairman of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation committee at the NYHHC. Prior to that, Dr. Cherian was site director of the emergency residency program at State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical School.
In various other roles, Dr. Cherian worked at the Richmond University Medical Center, Queens Hospital Center, Nassau University Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Metropolitan Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, Our Lady of Medicine, St. Vincent's Hospital Center, and Harlem Hospital Center.
Dr. Cherian is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, a member of the American College of Medicine, and a member of the American Medical Association. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, and his Bachelor of Biomedical Education from Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/City College of New York. Dr. Cherian completed the emergency medicine residency program at the New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital Center.
